Building Our Identity Around Something Besides God

It’s something Perry admits he has done and does. But because God has put eternity in our hearts He the only One who can give us the joy we long for.

Shawna describes following Jesus as a daily dethroning of self. It’s pride that causes us to think that our own thoughts and ideas supersede God’s. Only humility can correct that.

We often cry out to God when we’re scared and we don’t know what to do. But in areas where we have confidence we tend to rely on our own understanding instead of asking God for advice.

Last, at the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, Israeli soldiers were asking their wives to abort their babies because of their fear of the future.

But now that these soldiers have seen death, they are begging their wives to have those babies. That’s where the Israeli pro-life team Efrat has stepped in.

The Truth in True Crime

Americans are obsessed with murder.  True crime podcasts and documentaries are often found at the top of ratings charts.

For Decades, cold-case homicide detective J. Warner Wallace investigated the causes behind deaths and murders, chasing one lead after another for months as he attempted to solve the case.

Investigating death taught Wallace a great deal about life and the nature of people. In his latest book, The Truth in True Crime, Wallace explores the clues lying behind our human nature as he uncovers fifteen life-truths gleaned from both contemporary murder investigations and ancient Biblical wisdom.

Truths like: Human beings were created for worship, for community, to pursue humility, and to seek justice and mercy.

Wallace uses his experience as a homicide detective to give a one-of-a-kind look at human nature, the struggles we face, and how each of us desires and seeks Truth.

By highlighting details of real-life death investigations, Wallace invites us into the drama, only to find out what really matters in the end.

Gently Sharing Jesus in Our Angry World

As Christians, when we take a stand for our faith, we want to avoid coming across as combative or adversarial. While it’s important to be uncompromising when we communicate the truth, Scripture also calls us to speak the truth with love.

But in a world that seems as hostile as ever, how do we do that? How do we stand firmly in what we believe and build rock solid and loving relationships when we differ on the essentials? On things of eternal significance?

Lindsey Medenwaldt, author of Bridge Building Apologetics shares how to engage in a conversation about Jesus with those who question our beliefs. How to pray before, after, and during those conversations. And she even models for us how to share the gospel in 30 seconds!

Then, if you’re a woman, in your honest moments, do you feel beautiful or do you feel ugly. In a culture that demands image perfection, the gospel tells us we’re beautiful for a completely different reason than what the culture gives.

Lastly, do you struggle to trust God in your life? When someone has wronged you and you feel so justified in holding on to unforgiveness, do you wrestle with God’s command to forgive others like He’s forgiven you? What does the Bible say about those who trust their own wisdom over God’s?

“I’m Unqualified, But I’ll Go”

That’s what Bob Blincoe said to Jesus in the 1990’s when he moved his family to Northern Iraq where, at the time, there we 0 missionaries in a million! And because God works with the unqualified there’s now a growing church of Kurdish Muslim background believers there.

Bob Blincoe of FrontiersUSA joins the podcast to call you and me to give up our smaller ambitions and bring the gospel to places and peoples in the world that have NO access to the word of God.

First Bob talks about the power of 0 missionaries in a million and the power of being unqualified to plant the good news where it’s never been heard andhow God loves these odds! Then Perry admits, “I want my heart to be a flame for the lost, but I’ve become lukewarm.”

Perry asks Bob, “When you breathe your last breath, by the grace of God, what do you hope to see looking back at your life.” Next, Perry also asks Bob, “Should the reality of hell motivate us to go?”  Then, “All the sad things will come untrue.” Just look at Psalm 22.

Last, Bob is just now into his 8th decade of life, but his passion to preach the gospel where Christ is not known burns hot as does his passion to send the next generation to finish the Great Commission! Please share this show!

Got Bible Questions?

Dr. Jeremy GrinnelI has answers to your Bible questions.  Jeremy earned his PhD in Systematic Theology from Calvin Seminary, he’s a bible teacher, a fantasy author and has an amazing story of redemption!

In this episode he answers the following questions:

How do you explain the virgin birth?

The bible talks about “true Jews,” and those who are ethically Jewish but aren’t “true Jews.” What’s up with that?

What do I say to those who question God's love and mercy when He allows innocents to suffer & perish?

How are we to be “in this world,” coming alongside those who don’t know Jesus, and not be “of the world”?

If once we’re saved, we’re always saved, then why do we need to be sanctified?

And, what even is sanctification?

Shawna Beyer

Shawna Beyer has a way of telling stories that create personal connection— to her, to one another, and to God. She has been a homeschool mom, church planter, project lead for a consulting company, and church staff member. Though she’s been involved in ministry with her husband (Dan) in Iowa, Arizona, and now Michigan, she was born and raised in Southern California and as they say, “You can take the girl out of California . . .” She is mom to four grown kids (Bryn, Drayson, Eden, and Haven) who no longer need her but humor her anyway. Shawna is passionate about the rhythms we weave into the fabric of our lives to fall more in love with God each day. Healthy foods are her go-to, but she will abandon that whole track in a heartbeat for a homemade cinnamon roll like Grandma used to make.
