The First Presbyterian Church of River Forest will offer a Tenebrae Service (Latin for "Service of Darkness") offers a dramatic retelling of the suffering and death of Jesus through scripture, hymns, choral music, and eventual darkness. As part of this service, the First Pres choir will present “We Remember Calvary” by Joel Raney. The choral texts draw from classic and newer hymns, as well as newly composed music, all centered on the journey to the cross. The First Pres choir will be accompanied by a chamber instrumental ensemble directed by Jane Holstein, director of music. Over the course of the service, candles will be extinguished as the retelling of Jesus’ final days leading to the cross unfold in word and song. We invite the community to share this reflection.
