How to Talk With Your Kids About Sex

As an innocent young boy, Nick was at a sleepover with a friend when he first saw porn. A curiosity became an addiction.

With all his heart he wanted freedom, but who do you tell you’re addicted to porn? Where do you go for help?

Nick Stumbo found the help he needed at Pure Desire. Today Nick is their executive director. Pure Desire is a ministry helping us find freedom and healing from sexual brokenness.

Social media and porn are raising our kids. For our kids to come to us with their curiosity so that we can share God’s great design for their sexuality we must normalize talking about sex with our kids.

And that starts with letting them know that they can bring any and all of their questions to us!

Nick Stumbo

As a third-generation pastor, Nick Stumbo started his ministry career at the East Hills Alliance Church in Kelso, Washington. Serving as their lead pastor for more than a decade, Nick observed the fallout of sexual brokenness and devastation in the lives of men and women in the church and recognized, like never before, the need for a culture of grace in the Church. Confronted with his own addiction to pornography, Nick and his wife, Michelle, found hope and healing through the counseling and group ministries of Pure Desire. It radically changed their lives! His public disclosure to his church body lead to a revival of forgiveness and healing, launching Pure Desire groups—of hope and freedom—for men and women. Following his healing, Nick stayed connected to Pure Desire through group leadership and has authored two books, Setting Us Free and Safe. Today, as the Executive Director for Pure Desire, Nick continues to believe that the Church can become a place of healing and that Pure Desire is leading the way. His passion for the Church and this ministry is evident.

Shawna Beyer

Shawna Beyer has a way of telling stories that create personal connection— to her, to one another, and to God. She has been a homeschool mom, church planter, project lead for a consulting company, and church staff member. Though she’s been involved in ministry with her husband (Dan) in Iowa, Arizona, and now Michigan, she was born and raised in Southern California and as they say, “You can take the girl out of California . . .” She is mom to four grown kids (Bryn, Drayson, Eden, and Haven) who no longer need her but humor her anyway. Shawna is passionate about the rhythms we weave into the fabric of our lives to fall more in love with God each day. Healthy foods are her go-to, but she will abandon that whole track in a heartbeat for a homemade cinnamon roll like Grandma used to make.
