The Disappearing Seat – Heather Holleman

Jesus revealed truth through story telling. And so does Heather.

Author Heather Holleman joins Perry and Shawna to talk about her new book  The Disappearing Seat.

It’s book 2 of the Elita Brown series for young readers. Elita loves December, but this year, it seems everyone’s life is better than hers. Her friends are having amazing adventures and she’s jealous.

Plus, there’s a looming school-wide speech competition and Elita fears public speaking. And where is her mentor when Elita needs her most? In the end, Elita discovers the beautiful life God’s given her.

Perry, Shawna, and Heather talk about how jealousy interferes with being grateful for the seat we have at the table with Jesus; about the gift of nature in our walk with Jesus, the incredible blessing of journaling, and our need for mentors in this life, no matter our age.

Also in the episode...

During a bombing in Gaza, Rasim’s home was hit and it collapsed. His family was trapped in the rubble for 5 days able to breath because of a small space in the midst of concrete. The only reason they’re alive is because a man in a white robe brought them food and water.

Last, Kindness is powerful. Shawna reflects on how a complete stranger’s kind act of holding the door open for her brought her to tears. And tells a powerful story of God’s kindness towards her in a very specific way.

Profile

Shawna Beyer

Shawna Beyer has a way of telling stories that create personal connection— to her, to one another, and to God. She has been a homeschool mom, church planter, project lead for a consulting company, and church staff member. Though she’s been involved in ministry with her husband (Dan) in Iowa, Arizona, and now Michigan, she was born and raised in Southern California and as they say, “You can take the girl out of California . . .” She is mom to four grown kids (Bryn, Drayson, Eden, and Haven) who no longer need her but humor her anyway. Shawna is passionate about the rhythms we weave into the fabric of our lives to fall more in love with God each day. Healthy foods are her go-to, but she will abandon that whole track in a heartbeat for a homemade cinnamon roll like Grandma used to make.
