Fight For Your Daughter, Not Against Her

The teen years are an emotional roller coaster in your daughter's life. She still needs you . . . but sometimes you honestly don't know what to do. Navigating these complicated teen years with her own four daughters, Stacey Thacker, author of  Praying for Teen Girls: Partner with God for the Heart of Your Daughter, offers wisdom and practical help from the trenches.

Stacey admits, “If you feel like an unlikely prayer warrior when it comes to praying for your teen girl, please know that I still struggle with the term. I’m seeing God use me, and getting used to the idea that just like in the Bible, God can use people like me. I think He delights in doing so. In the process He is transforming me as He grows my faith and makes me more like His Son.”

We need to understand that when we honestly pray for our girls to be strong, sometimes God perfects his strength in them when they come to the end of themselves. We may not want to, but we must get out of the way and pray that very prayer.

As we pray for our teen girl, we need to be bold enough to pray that her first friendship will be Jesus. That she will define her life by His unconditional love for her, model her life after his, and look for friends who point her to Him every step of the way.

Lastly, our teen girls want to be prayed for every single day. They want you to be bold enough to ask Jesus for a favor on their behalf. They want to believe prayer works. And more than anything, we want to pray, “Lord, light her path,” so that she will take the next right step no matter what.

Shawna Beyer

Shawna Beyer has a way of telling stories that create personal connection— to her, to one another, and to God. She has been a homeschool mom, church planter, project lead for a consulting company, and church staff member. Though she’s been involved in ministry with her husband (Dan) in Iowa, Arizona, and now Michigan, she was born and raised in Southern California and as they say, “You can take the girl out of California . . .” She is mom to four grown kids (Bryn, Drayson, Eden, and Haven) who no longer need her but humor her anyway. Shawna is passionate about the rhythms we weave into the fabric of our lives to fall more in love with God each day. Healthy foods are her go-to, but she will abandon that whole track in a heartbeat for a homemade cinnamon roll like Grandma used to make.
