Singer-songwriter Rebecca Saint James is here! In case you don’t know the film Unsung Hero tells her family’s incredible story.
In 1990, after his music company fails, David Smallbone and his pregnant wife Helen take a leap of faith, moving their seven children from Australia to Nashville.
With only their luggage, a love for music, and unbreakable faith, they set out to rebuild their lives.
In the rebuilding Rebecca lands a record deal at 16, paving the way for her brothers, Joel and Luke, to later form For King & Country.
Rebecca shares why she cries every time she watches Unsung Hero. Perry shares why he cried during the film (It was something that moved his father’s heart for his daughter.)
Rebecca shares how she and her husband are trying to build a home where their kids can feel safe to come to them about anything.
We do talk about how Jesus believes in us and calls out the not yet in us. And Rebecca’s shares how a John Mark Comer book has transformed her hurry up life.

The Australian native's modern pop sensibilities and uncompromising lyrics set a benchmark in Christian music, leading a new generation of artistry in the genre. Rebecca has earned multiple Dove Awards, nine #1 Christian radio singles and two GOLD®-certified recordings, and her discography includes such iconic albums as Pray, God, and Transform.
Following a hiatus from recording and touring—during which time she married and started a family—Rebecca returned to the stage in 2018 to perform with her brothers, multi-GRAMMY® and Dove Award-winning duo for KING + COUNTRY, and co-wrote several selections on their blockbuster 2019 recording, Burn the Ships. Rebecca is also the host of the podcast "Rebecca St James: Friends and Family.
Perry LaHaie's passion is to know Jesus and make Him known. “I’m all in with Jesus but not all put together. I need Jesus right now as much as I did when I first started following Him!” Perry says. In addition to co-hosting Perry and Shawna Mornings, Perry is a singer, songwriter, recording artist, and advocate for those who haven’t yet heard the gospel, especially those in the Muslim world. Born and raised in northern Michigan, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications and a graduate degree in Cross- cultural Communications. Perry also serves with Frontiers, a worldwide ministry to Muslims. Perry and his bride, Teresa, call Holland, Michigan home. They have two adult children, Kali and Taylor, and Taylor’s bride, Bri.
Shawna Beyer has a way of telling stories that create personal connection— to her, to one another, and to God. She has been a homeschool mom, church planter, project lead for a consulting company, and church staff member. Though she’s been involved in ministry with her husband (Dan) in Iowa, Arizona, and now Michigan, she was born and raised in Southern California and as they say, “You can take the girl out of California . . .” She is mom to four grown kids (Bryn, Drayson, Eden, and Haven) who no longer need her but humor her anyway. Shawna is passionate about the rhythms we weave into the fabric of our lives to fall more in love with God each day. Healthy foods are her go-to, but she will abandon that whole track in a heartbeat for a homemade cinnamon roll like Grandma used to make.
