The Jesus Way of Doing Politics

Anger, slander, hatred, de-humanizing your political opponents, pride. This is how America does politics. But for the Jesus follower there is a completely different way!

Brian Aulick, lead pastor at Engedi Church and host of the Made to Advance podcast joins us with a conversation about the Jesus way of doing politics.

It’s starts with realizing that our identity is not first as an American but as beloved child of God. Then it’s realizing that our calling is not first to win political battles but to be a messenger of the good news.

Next, it’s realizing that the primary tool God has given us to change our culture is not our vote (as important as that is), but rather it’s the power of the gospel! Then, if we want to change culture, we must do it by our good living and wise speaking.

And finally it’s realizing that no matter who wins the Oval Office, God is still King. He is still writing his unstoppable story of redemption. And that justice will finally win.

Also, when your emotions are triggered, and you’re tempted to believe you aren’t wanted or that you’re defined by your failures, you can choose to dwell on that, or you can remind yourself of truth: that you’re loved more than you can imagine!

Shawna Beyer

Shawna Beyer has a way of telling stories that create personal connection— to her, to one another, and to God. She has been a homeschool mom, church planter, project lead for a consulting company, and church staff member. Though she’s been involved in ministry with her husband (Dan) in Iowa, Arizona, and now Michigan, she was born and raised in Southern California and as they say, “You can take the girl out of California . . .” She is mom to four grown kids (Bryn, Drayson, Eden, and Haven) who no longer need her but humor her anyway. Shawna is passionate about the rhythms we weave into the fabric of our lives to fall more in love with God each day. Healthy foods are her go-to, but she will abandon that whole track in a heartbeat for a homemade cinnamon roll like Grandma used to make.
