Christian Working WomanMonths ago, Shawna was asked to come to Australia for the birth of her 1st grandchild. She thought it’d be amazing, yet very possible to miss the birth. So, Shawna shares what it meant for her to actually be in the room as Selah came into the world.
Then, Shawna’s daughter Eden says it “feels natural” to be a mom. Son-in-law Grant says it’s “surreal” to be a dad. And we hear how the name “Selah” has everything to do with the day Jesus found Grant.
Also in this episode we talk with bible teacher Colin Smith about his latest book, “Fly Through the Bible,” that shows how the bible is one big story of God’s unfolding plan to save you and me, to save the world!
We see that God promises a deliverer 3 chapters into Genesis; how Jesus shows up when God calls Abraham to offer his son Issac; how the Jewish people were looking for a conquering Messiah but got someone way better, and how the story is moving toward an end, which is really “the beginning of the true story.”
Colin S. Smith is senior pastor of The Orchard Evangelical Free Church, a vibrant, multi-campus church in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. More widely, Colin is the teacher on the daily radio program Open the Bible airing at 9:00am on 89.3 Moody Radio Grand Rapids. Colin was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland. He met his wife Karen at while studying at London Bible College and later ministered at the Enfield Evangelical Free Church in north London. The Smiths now live in the Chicago area and have two grown children and three grandchildren.
Perry LaHaie's passion is to know Jesus and make Him known. “I’m all in with Jesus but not all put together. I need Jesus right now as much as I did when I first started following Him!” Perry says. In addition to co-hosting Perry and Shawna Mornings, Perry is a singer, songwriter, recording artist, and advocate for those who haven’t yet heard the gospel, especially those in the Muslim world. Born and raised in northern Michigan, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications and a graduate degree in Cross- cultural Communications. Perry also serves with Frontiers, a worldwide ministry to Muslims. Perry and his bride, Teresa, call Holland, Michigan home. They have two adult children, Kali and Taylor, and Taylor’s bride, Bri.
Shawna Beyer has a way of telling stories that create personal connection— to her, to one another, and to God. She has been a homeschool mom, church planter, project lead for a consulting company, and church staff member. Though she’s been involved in ministry with her husband (Dan) in Iowa, Arizona, and now Michigan, she was born and raised in Southern California and as they say, “You can take the girl out of California . . .” She is mom to four grown kids (Bryn, Drayson, Eden, and Haven) who no longer need her but humor her anyway. Shawna is passionate about the rhythms we weave into the fabric of our lives to fall more in love with God each day. Healthy foods are her go-to, but she will abandon that whole track in a heartbeat for a homemade cinnamon roll like Grandma used to make.
