Faith & Finance LiveIn just about a week, the world’s eyes will be on Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. What is it like to minister the gospel in a country like France? On Thursday’s Mornings with Eric and Brigitte, former missionary to France, Marc Mailloux gives a look back at the Church in France and a current look at the growing Church in this part of the world.
We all endure trials, pain, and hardship in this life. The enemy often uses those experiences to convince us that our brokenness disqualifies us from ever being used by God again. Thursday on Mornings with Eric and Brigitte, Dr. Michelle Bengtson tells us that the truth is, our past pain and brokenness actually serve as preparation for what God wants to do in us and through us, if we will but surrender to and trust in him.
Marc was born in 1953 in a French-Canadian Roman Catholic milieu in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He began searching for the meaning of life when he was around sixteen. After getting involved in hallucinogenic drugs and Oriental mysticism at Georgetown University in 1972, he hitchhiked across Europe and stumbled on Francis Schaeffer’s l’Abri Fellowship in Switzerland where his Oriental convictions were shaken. He continued on to India where, in April of 1973 in Benares, the Lord dragged him into the Kingdom. His search for truth is the subject of his first book, Discovery on the Katmandu Trail (1983). Marc settled in France in 1973 where, after a year of preliminary language study in Paris, he enrolled at the Reformed Seminary in Aix-en-Provence, there meeting his wife Aline. They were married in March of 1978 and have been blessed with three children, Calix (1980), Justin (1982), and Anaïs (1984).
Dr. Michelle Bengtson entertained several dreams in her life: becoming a doctor, having children and writing a book. She studied neuroscience, becoming a board-certified neuropsychologist almost 30 years ago. She lives to break the grip of anxiety and fear, foster regeneration, and renew life in her readers and listeners. She frequently speaks from John 10:10: “The thief only comes to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they might have life, and have it to the full.” From her own personal experience and professional expertise as a clinical Neuropsychologist, she unpacks these words, recognizing in her life and others’ the brokenness that attends life, but also the concrete steps we can take as we walk with Christ through the thin places of life.
