The Inside Story behind Living by Faith

A passion for discipleship was the impetus behind Trillia Newbell’s popular new radio show

“I love sharing the Bible, discipling others, and teaching them to follow Jesus—it all made perfect sense,” says Trillia Newbell, host of the new Moody Radio program Living by Faith. Trillia, a prolific speaker, podcaster, and author, loves interacting with people—especially about her faith. So when Moody Radio offered her the opportunity to host a new weekly radio show about exhorting and strengthening others in their Christian walk, she jumped at the chance.

Living by Faith debuted in July and can be heard every Saturday at 8:00 a.m. CT on your local Moody Radio station. This engaging program provides biblical wisdom, heartfelt encouragement, and a platform for program guests and listeners to have meaningful, in-depth discussions about the relevant issues that Christians face every day.

We recently talked with Trillia about her new gig as a radio show host, the story behind Living by Faith, and how her listeners enrich her life as a believer. nd how her listeners enrich her life as a believer. Once you finish this quick read, you can head over to

How did you get the opportunity to host a radio show?

I have had the privilege of being a guest on many radio shows because of my ministry work. Then Dan Craig, manager of programming for Moody Radio, asked me if I would be interested in being on the radio and starting a program for Saturday mornings. He was familiar with my podcast, 52 Weeks in the Word, which is based on my book of the same name.

You chose the name Living by Faith. How did you land on that title?

When Dan approached me about doing a radio show, he said I had free rein to decide the topic or theme. I was excited but overwhelmed at the same time. In thinking of the direction for the show, I asked myself, “What am I about?” “What’s my heartbeat?” And the answer was clear: discipleship! I knew I could best serve my listeners by helping them to live out their faith. So that's how Living by Faith was born.

How do you determine the topics and the guests?

I ask the question: What are the felt needs of our listeners? What wisdom or insight is the audience looking or longing for? Based off that, I’ve determined pertinent topics such as general discipleship, spiritual disciplines, dealing with adversity, parenting, stress, sickness, relational discord, and more. These are topics that most, if not every, Christian can relate to. That’s what Living by Faith is all about.

What guests have appeared so far, and what have you discussed?

In July I discussed suffering with author Colleen Chao, interviewed pastor Jed Coppenger on prayer, spent time with Kat Armstrong talking about her new Bible study series, and had an authentic conversation on marriage with my dear husband.

It’s been such a blessing getting to invite and interact with guests who I know will encourage and engage the audience. So far it’s been a lot of fun, and we have many more to come!

What interactions with guests or callers have been the most meaningful?

I have been delighted to speak with guests as they share about their hopes, fears, convictions, and prayer needs. It reminds me that we are all in this together: running the race with endurance, leaning on the Lord for understanding, and clinging to the amazing grace of our Lord.

What has been the response to Living by Faith so far?

The show is still fairly new, but it’s been so reassuring to see so many positive comments of support from our audience! The volume of prayer requests from listeners calling in was an encouraging indication that people are listening and feeling blessed. Seeing so many folks receive prayer and support has built my faith for the future!

Also, the prayer requests from callers have been in line with the topics we’re seeking to address on the show. It has confirmed to us that the issues we’ve been discussing are the ones our audience continues to wrestle with. I’m encouraged that so far, we seem to be connecting with our listeners.

Why should people listen to the show?

I would hope that by tuning in they would receive encouragement and biblical insights for living out their faith and taking God at His Word.

I would also love people to know that when it comes to the Christian life, I am in it with them. I experience trials, have a family and a career, and strive to serve God the best I can. I think it’s important for people to know that I'm human and running the race along with them, letting God use me however He chooses.

Living by Faith can also be heard on the Moody Radio app and livingbyfaithradio.org.
