Engaging Jesus and the Gospels with Our Senses
Our physical senses are crucial to gaining knowledge of the world around us. Yet when it comes to Bible reading, we often reduce it to a mere cognitive experience, ignoring the Psalmist's invitation to "taste and see that the Lord is good." Ed Stetzer talks with Biola's Jeannine Hanger about how Jesus, who took on flesh, engaged the senses in his teaching, ministry and interactions with people. They'll talk about the importance of us engaging our senses when reading the Bible to enrich that faith experience.

Jeannine Hanger
Jeannine Hanger is Associate Professor of New Testament at Talbot School of Theology, Biola University. Her research interests focus on the Gospels, more specifically on topics related to participation with Christ. She's recently written the book, Engaging Jesus With Our Senses: An Embodied Approach to the Gospels. Jeannine has been married for 26 years to her husband Garrick, a pastor at Coastline Covenant Church in Redondo Beach.

Ed Stetzer, Ph.D., is Dean of the Talbot School of Theology at Biola University. He has planted, revitalized, and pastored churches; trained pastors and church planters on six continents; earned two master’s degrees and two doctorates; and he has written hundreds of articles and a dozen books. He is Regional Director for Lausanne North America, is the Editor-in-Chief of Outreach Magazine, and regularly writes for news outlets such as USA Today and CNN. He serves at his local church, Highpoint Church, as a teaching pastor. Ed and his wife Donna have been married for more than 35 years and are the parents of three daughters.
