By the time he was in his 30s, Victor had been employed at 76 jobs—none of which he excelled in. When he applied for his 77th job, part of the hiring process required taking an IQ test. To everyone’s shock and amazement, Victor tested at a genius level, and his life took a dramatic turn. With newfound confidence, Victor worked to become an expert in LASIK eye surgery, a new and revolutionary procedure at the time, which would ultimately improve vision for millions of people around the world.
Many Christians live in a similar state as Victor. Despite being reconciled to God and joint heirs with Christ, they live their lives as much less than who they really are. Though they’ve gained a brand new identity, complete with gifts and callings, they continue to live in their old state of mind.
Consider what Paul writes in Ephesians 2:4–6:
“But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”
If you’ve accepted that precious gift of salvation through Christ, you are an entirely new creation, sealed by the Holy Spirit. You are no longer just “you.” Your identity is in Jesus Christ who lives in you, making all things new. When God looks at you, He sees you in Christ!
It was a real gift to spend time with my mom this summer in northern Spain, where she has lived for over 50 years serving as a missionary with my dad before his untimely passing. Now 86, she is still full of faith, laughter, and wisdom. I’d love for you to meet her and see for yourself! Below you'll find a video I recorded with her while I was there. I hope you treasure this as much as I do!
