“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
(Luke 11:9–10).
D. L. Moody’s life is a testament to the power of prayer and the impact it can have. Despite his humble beginnings and limited formal education, his commitment to prayer and his reliance on God’s guidance allowed him to reach millions with the message of Christ. His statement that he’d rather know how to better pray than to preach reveals the foundation of his ministry—that prayer is the source of true power and impact.
We, too, can be bold in prayer, knowing that Jesus has made a way for us into the throne room of God. Because of Christ, we have the privilege to approach God with confidence and security, not because of our own righteousness, but because of Jesus’ sacrifice. When we come before God in prayer, He sees the righteousness of Christ in us, and Jesus steps in on our behalf. This gives us the boldness to ask, seek, and knock, knowing that our prayers are heard and that God delights in answering them.
God has placed each of us in unique situations, whether we’re the only ones who know Christ in our family, in our workplace, or elsewhere. Our prayers can make a difference not only in our own lives but in the lives of those around us. We must continually ask, seek, and knock with the confidence that God will open doors and respond to our requests.
The call to pray for others is so vital, too. People are often more open than we might think when it comes to prayer. There is a hunger in every heart for something more, and when we offer to pray for someone, we are inviting them to experience the presence and power of God. Sometimes, just being willing to pray can be a catalyst that opens hearts to God’s love and truth.
As we embrace this boldness in prayer, may we also remember that the act of praying persistently and passionately can be a powerful tool in transforming lives, just as it was for D. L. Moody and countless others.
This week, I’ll be heading to the National Religious Broadcaster’s International Christian Media Convention in Grapevine, Texas, with several members of the Moody Radio team. NRB is the world’s largest gathering of Christian communicators and ministry professionals who come together for a time of learning, strategizing, and fellowship. I will be speaking at several engagements and meeting with many of our radio constituents. Pray with me for fruitful conversations and connections!
