“The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day.”
(Genesis 18:1)
Just like catching a bus or plane, or grabbing our suitcase from the baggage claim, our spiritual lives have windows of opportunity that can easily pass us by if we're not ready. Timing is crucial when traveling so it’s important that we check schedules, arrive early, and have our tickets ready. Similarly, in a spiritual context, these opportunities require us to be aware and act on them when they arise.
These “God moments” are the times in our lives when growth and change become most apparent. They often come unexpectedly and may be fleeting, so if we’re not vigilant, we might miss them. Just like an antenna needs to be properly aligned to receive a clear signal, our spirit needs to be attuned to God so we can sense and recognize His work in our lives. Don't let distractions or complacency cause you to miss these moments!
Abraham’s story in Genesis 18 is a powerful example of being vigilant for God to work and move in our lives. Abraham and Sarah had been promised a son, but years had passed, and they were still waiting. It was during this time of waiting in the plains of Mamre when three visitors arrived, bringing the news that Sarah would indeed bear a son. Even when Abraham and Sarah couldn’t see it, God was still working behind the scenes and in His perfect timing, brought the visitors to them marking a turning point in their journey, showing them that God’s delays are not denials.
Like Sarah who laughed when she heard she and Abraham would become pregnant with a son, we, too, need to guard against doubt that can creep in and hinder our ability to hear from God. Doubt competes with our faith, threatening to drive out the truths of His Word. We must actively choose faith in the waiting and regularly seek God’s presence through worship, prayer, and scripture reading which fosters an environment for God to speak to us.
Friend, if you’re in a season of waiting for God to move in your life, be intentional about seeking God, prioritizing communion with Him, and then seizing the moment when it arrives.
Today marks a solemn occasion, the one-year anniversary of the devastating conflict between Hamas and Israel. Today, I remember the lives lost, the families torn apart, and the communities changed forever. Today, I honor the memories of innocent Israelis who suffered brutal attacks and Palestinians caught amid this senseless violence. Today, I pray for peace.
‘Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.” For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “Peace be within you.” For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your prosperity.’ Psalm 122:6-9
